Blog Post #1

A little bit about me...

I've been in education in some form or another for 20 years.  I am currently working in an elementary school as the Media Resource Specialist.  It is my first year in this position and I am learning so much each and every day.

My learning goals for this course:

It is always my goal to stay current with new technologies and resources that are available to educators.  I'm hoping that through this course I will be introduced to specific tools that I can take back to use with my students and other teachers I work with.

It is also my goal to extend my professional network and keep it fresh.  I feel that it is very important to connect with others in the same field for the purpose of gaining new ideas and inspiration.

  1. I like your learning goals for this course. I think the best thing that educators can do is to relate newly acquired knowledge to the everyday educational setting. The professional networks are a great way to organize, learn, and connect with other professionals.

    1. Chris, in my system we have combined the job of media specialist and instructional technology specialist and named it "Media Resource Specialist". My job is filled with many responsibilities that involve supporting classroom teachers and students in using technology as a tool for teaching and learning as well as running and maintaining the library as a student centered environment. It is quite challenging and NEVER boring! I'm really enjoying every minute!

  3. I just posted on Kendra's blog that today a PLN isn't something nice to have, it's an essential. Not only will you learn about different tools, strategies and resources but you'll get a chance to hear how they worked in the real world!

    1. Brad, go to the design section on your blog and choose "Layout". You should then be able to add a gadget where you choose on your blog. Choose the HTML/Java Script. Add your title and open your twitter feed in another window. Do a search for #FRIT7234. Once the feed comes up you can click on the little settings icon by the search name. Choose embed and copy the script and paste it in the blog gadget. I hope this makes sense.
